$219K Seized After Illegal Border Crossing

SUMAS, Wash. -- Border patrol agents seized nearly $219,000 in cash after tracking some border jumpers to a trailer near Sumas.

The group was spotted by surveillance camera operators running south across the border into the U.S. around 6:15 last Thursday evening.

Agents from the Sumas Station along with a border patrol K9 were able to track the individuals to a double-wide trailer just 100 yards south of the border.

Agent Jeffery Jones with the border patrol says one of them admitted to crossing illegally with the cash stuffed in a backpack.

He says three of the individuals were Mexican citizens illegally present in the united states.

They were arrested for being illegal aliens, and the money was seized.

A fourth person in the trailer, a U.S. citizen, had an active warrant and was turned over to local authorities.
