City Council Member Announces Retirement

Bellingham, Wash. -- A Bellingham City Council member has decided to calls it quits.

Bellingham 4th Ward Councilman Stan Snapp announced Wednesday he will retire after finishing out his term that ends in December.

Snapp has been on the council for six years.

He has served the Bellingham community for nearly 39 years in a variety of capacities, including 23 years with the Bellingham Fire Department as a services division chief.

Snapp says his prior charitable work led him to public service.

He says he is proud of the work he and the council have done to keep public service levels high in Bellingham since the economic downturn began in 2007.

Snapp also praises Mayor Kelli Linville for moving Bellingham in the right direction when it comes to waterfront cleanup and redevelopment.
