Council Snubs Proposal To Give Key To Bellingham To Jon Stewart

kgmi@kgmi.com

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike isn’t getting much support from the Bellingham City Council on his proposal to give the key to the city to Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart.

Councilman Terry Bornemann made a motion asking the council on Monday to get behind the mayor’s proposition, but none of the other council members offered a second to the motion or even discussed it.

Pike’s offer is in response to the mayor of Mount Vernon’s decision to give controversial radio and TV talk show host Glenn Beck the key to that city.

"Jon Stewart's a much better journalist than Glenn Beck is and he doesn't pretend to be," Pike said. "Glenn Beck frankly is an entertainer, from my perspective, who doesn't rely on accuracy in what he does."

Beck does not claim to be a journalist, as he made clear when he was on “The View.”

Beck is getting the key to Mount Vernon on September 26th.
