SUMAS, Wash. -- Border agents have arrested a Mexican national carrying drugs and guns near the Canadian border in Whatcom County.

The Border Patrol reports agents arrested the man after a short foot chase near Sumas August 7th.

The Patrol says the suspect carried 12 pounds of cocaine and 4 handguns in a backpack.

He had prior arrests for aggravated assault, kidnapping, and had previously been deported.

Officials say the man was processed to be charged and removed from the country.
