LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's Victoria Pendleton broke arch rival Anna Meares's 200-metre flying lap world record to qualify fastest for the 1/16 finals of the Olympic women's track cycling sprint on Sunday.

Pendleton, the world and Olympic champion, clocked 10.724 seconds to beat the previous best mark set by Australian Meares by 0.058 seconds.

Meares was second, clocking 10.805 seconds.

The qualifying lap is used to seed the riders, who will race in the 1/16 round later on Sunday.
