Deal Reached To Resolve "Dairy Cliff" Awaits Vote

WASHINGTON D.C. (Metro) -- The Senate and House Agricultural committee leaders say they have a deal that will prevent the country from plunging off the so-called "dairy cliff."

In essence, the agreement extends the 2008 farm bill for another year.

That would allow government subsidies for dairy to continue uninterrupted.

Those subsidies are set to expire in the New Year, which in turn could cause milk prices to double if congress does nothing.

Lawmakers in both the House and Senate will have to pass the agreement for it to take effect.
