Democrats Battle It Out In 1st Congressional District Race

EVERETT, Wash.  (Metro)  -- A new poll shows two Democrats locked in a battle for the chance to oppose presumptive GOP nominee John Koster in the race for the First Congressional District seat in November.

Heraldnet.com reports Suzan DelBene's million-dollar advertising investment has vaulted her into a virtual tie with Darcy Burner, leading the pack of Democrats running in the primary.

This week's survey of 500 likely voters conducted by Seattle consulting firm Strategies 360, gave Burner 12 percent of the support, compared to DelBene's eleven percent.

The other Democratic candidates Steve Hobbs, Laura Ruderman and Darshan Rauniyar and independent Larry Ishmael didn't make double digits.

Overall, Republican John Koster continues to be the front-runner, with 36 percent of the support.

The seven candidates are vying for a two-year term in the 1st District, stretching north from Kirkland in King County to the Canadian border.

It takes in the rural areas and suburbs of east Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties, as well as the cities of Lake Stevens, Monroe, Sultan and Bothell.
