Officials say the container installation models a successful downtown pilot program that began in 2009.
The containers, intended for cans, bottles, plastic cups and lids have signs and colors similar to home recycling bins.
Darby Cowles with the city’s Planning and Development Department, says containers are only meant to be used by people shopping, visiting or working in Fairhaven.
Businesses looking to enroll in a commercial recycling program should contact the Sanitary Service Company directly to explore their options.
The bins are located next to the area’s trash cans.
