This week the city was awarded a state grant by the Community Economic Revitalization Board for $500 thousand to help fund the proposed new 15 thousand square foot library that will be located on Main Street near city hall.
Ferndale Mayor Gary Jensen says that a larger library is needed to accommodate a nearly 50 percent jump in library traffic since moving to its current temporary location.
While they received matching funds from an anonymous donor, Jensen says the city is about $400 thousand shy of reaching the amount needed to begin construction this summer and encourages the public to help.
Anyone can make a donation towards the new library at www.newferndalelibrary.org/donate.
