Olympia, Wash. (Metro) -- Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is making calls to Washington state lawmakers, urging them to vote in favor of a bill to require universal background checks for all gun sales.
The sponsor of the measure, Seattle Representative Jamie Pedersen says it's currently three votes short of passage in the House.
Giffords survived a 2011 shooting in Tucson, Arizona.
Governor Jay Inslee has asked her to help build support for the background-check bill in Washington state.
