LUMMI ISLAND, Wash. -- The company that owns a rock quarry on Lummi Island will resume operations today to remove a sunken barge from the water off the island.
The State Department of Ecology says Lummi Rock LLC will again try to raise the barge after suspending the work in March to protect migrating juvenile salmon.
The work was causing some occasional small oil spills. Ecology will be on site to inspect the operation and ensure environmental protections are in place.
