New Draft Shows Progress For Waterfront Redevelopment Plan

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The City and Port of Bellingham are making progress on a plan to redevelop the waterfront.

Port and City officials have released the latest draft waterfront district master plan and have scheduled meetings of the Waterfront Advisory Group.

The draft includes proposed changes to the 2010 waterfront district draft sub-area plan, and is posted on the city and port websites.

Mayor Kelli Linville says both the city and port are eager to start cleaning and opening up the waterfront, and creating jobs.

Port executive director rob fix says they will start trying to attract a developer for the waterfront early next year.

The waterfront advisory group will review the proposed changes at meetings planned for November 28 and December 6.

They hope to submit a draft plan to the city's planning commission by the end of the year.

The city will then seek further public feedback before a final plan is considered and adopted by the city council.
