New Study Shows Pesticides Remain In Lynden Well Water

LYNDEN, Wash. -- A new study by state ecology officials shows that pesticides remain in the well water near Lynden.

Back in 1998, a study found that two pesticides no longer used in farming – EDB and 1,2 DCP - were turning up in groundwater west of the city.

Homes with contaminated well water were hooked up the city’s water system.

Mary O’Herron, project manager at the Department of Ecology’s Bellingham field office, says a follow-up study found that the pesticides were still present in the groundwater, but the levels were slightly less than found in 1998.

Scientists project the pesticides will be gone within about the next five years.

O’Herron says if homeowners want to know if their own well water has been tested, they can call her at 715-5224.
