BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Port of Bellingham has released its proposed budget for 2010.
The spending plan calls for $12.2 million in operating expenses - a 4 percent increase over the 2009 budget.
The Port plans to spend nearly $34 million on capital projects, according to Port Chief Financial Officer Rob Fix.
Out of the capital project funds, $25 million will go to improvements at Bellingham International Airport, and much of the rest will go to environmental cleanup projects, Fix said.
Unlike local governments like Whatcom County and the City of Bellingham, the Port’s revenues are actually anticipated to increase, so it isn’t being forced lay off employees or make major cuts to services.
Port officials are holding a public hearing Tuesday, November 3rd, at the Harbor Center Conference Room at 1801 Roeder Ave. at 3 p.m. to gather input on the proposed budget.
