Samish Bay Oyster Harvest Reopened

SAMISH BAY, Wash. (Metro)  -- The Samish Bay is once again open for oyster harvesting.

The oyster growing areas had been closed in August after four cases of a vibrio-bacteria-related illness were reported within a 30 day period.

That prompted officials to close the harvest until October 1st.

However, one of those cases turned out to be false.

The naturally occurring bacteria can cause headaches, nausea, cramping, fever and chills.

Officials warn that warm weather is expected next week and people should use caution when harvesting and consuming raw oysters.

The say one more case of the illness would renew the closure at the bay.
