One Mind for Research is a non-profit organization working to bring together scientists, drug developers and government agencies to find cures for brain disorders.
Retired general and One Mind CEO Peter Chiarelli compares it to how research and funding was accelerated in the wake of the aids epidemic in the 1990s.
Chiarelli says there is no American Brain Association to compare with the American Heart and American Cancer Associations, but One Mind’s goal is to fill that gap.
He says science doesn't currently know enough about how the brain works, but brain disorders cost the US nearly $1 trillion per year and affect more than 60 million Americans.
