OLYMPIA, Wash. (Metro) -- Liquor sales in Washington will go private tomorrow as planned.
The Washington State Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of a voter-approved initiative to privatize liquor sales.
Freedom Foundation general counsel Michael J. Reitz tells komonews.com he got word of the ruling this morning.
Voter-approved Initiative 1183 allows stores larger than ten thousand square feet and some smaller stores to start selling liquor on Friday.
Voters approved the measure last fall, and the state has already auctioned off the rights to sell liquor at state stores.
Opponents challenged the initiative, on the basis that the measure violates state rules requiring initiatives to address only one subject.
It included a provision for public safety funding.
The state's highest court rejected the argument.
