Olympia, Wash. (Metro) -- A measure to require universal background checks for all gun sales in Washington may be dead for the current legislative session.
The bill fell three votes short of the 50 votes needed for passage in the House.
State law requires that licensed dealers must conduct background checks before selling firearms.
The bill would have also required private individuals to conduct such checks when selling guns.
