When Coal Dust Gets In Your Eyes...

...you don't see, or think, straight. We're often told that coal is "cheap energy" and we should expand our use of it. Nothing could be further from the truth. As this Yale University study shows, the coal industry creates costs that far out pace the actual economic benefits it generates (and it didn't even take climate change into account). Those costs come in the form of damage to citizens' health and the environment and neither the coal industry or we as utility customers pay them. But we as individuals certainly do pay them through higher medical costs, environmental degradation, etc. And, when these costs are taken into consideration, coal-generated energy is immensely more costly than green energy.

Keep this fact in mind the next time you hear someone rip on cap-and-trade because of the increased cost. We're already paying big time for not going green.

joey your blogs and topics are getting desperate and far reaching. So I went down to the railroad tracks today to see all the dead bodies and polluted water because we have coal trains running through town (now and centuries past)and guess what I saw? Yep healthy people and clean water. So what else could be your manipulation? "paying big time for not going green?" Last I checked we have never been greener, and green has never had as many free tax dollars as it does now (costing an unbelievable amount to the tax payers), and coal has never had more regulations on it (by democrats and obomba), thus raising the cost by government on coal. If democrats got off coal bashing and absurd regulations on it, it would be the cheapest energy source out there. How bout your quote "damage to citizens health". This is so pathetic I don't even want to comment but I will. This town is sitting on lots of past coal mines ( I used to ride motorcycles in them along with hundreds of others), the sites are still there, just have an albertsons built on top of it, and a couple on the north side of galbraith now have homes built on them. I keep waiting for my Dr. to say the coal dust I was right in the middle of is damaging my physical health. Being the guinea pig I was gives me the right to say "YOU LIE". Keep whoring your democrat agenda, that is more damaging and more costly to all Americans than some pathetic distraction like coal dust.

It seems that every time people complain about lack of jobs and shrinking tax base, an opportunity comes along and people try to shut it down. Remember the natural gas power plant proposal? It's the cleanest source for energy other than hydro. People here complained about the pollution. I would rather China burn our high quality clean coal than their sulphur contaminated coal. The former soviet union did that and killed off parts of their forests from the sulphur dioxide. If we reject this terminal proposal, those trains will still pass through here on their way to Canada and they will get all of those jobs.
