Free Dental Screenings

Friday, August 1st 2014 - All Day
at Bellingham Technical College

Dental Hygiene students at Bellingham Technical College are offering Free Teeth Screenings. BTC’s second-year Dental Hygiene students are required to take seven Board Examinations in the two quarters of the program. Finding qualifying patients is an extremely difficult task. Potential patients should have very heavy calculus (tartar); must have molar teeth; must have no large cavities; must have no gum pockets over 6mm and must not be allergic to latex.

If it’s been at least five years since your last teeth cleaning, call 752-8349 to see if you qualify for a free appointment. Screenings generally take 15-to-20 minutes.

Whatcom County Fire Restrictions

Friday, August 1st 2014 - 8:00 am

Due to the hot Summer weather and low moisture levels, the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office is enacting restrictions on all open burning, starting July 15th.

All land clearing and yard debris burning must be discontinued at that time. Recreational fires will still be allowed in designated campgrounds and on improved properties with the landowner’s permission. For a description of the requirements of an approved enclosure call the Burn Information Line: 676-6934.

In addition, the State Department Of Natural Resources is expanding a Burn Ban in DNR-protected land in eastern Washington to include DNR-protected land west of the Cascades, as well. (The burn ban applies to all forestland under DNR protection, which does not include federally owned land) The ban runs through September 30th.
