FERNDALE, Wash. – A local adoption advocate will be donating one of her own body parts to help a young orphan boy.
Nina Thompson from Children’s House International in Ferndale not only helped get a family for seven-year-old Gavin Thomas, she has also offered her own kidney to save his life.
Thompson says it’s worth taking the risk so that Gavin can be healthy.
Gavin has many special medical needs and is deaf.
He was living in an orphanage in Bulgaria waiting for a family until Thompson entered his life.
Gavin’s now living with the Thomas family in Long Beach, California.
He’s learned sign language and is in first grade. He’ll get his new kidney sometime in March.
