OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Auditor’s Office says the state Department of Social and Health Services mishandled millions of dollars of taxpayer money meant for people with developmental disabilities.
Lawmakers were told yesterday that contractors received a half-million dollars in overpayments, and more than $16 million was paid out despite incomplete or nonexistent paperwork.
Lead auditor Shauna Good told the legislative panel that the problems appear to be administrative in nature and that there was no evidence of fraud.
