BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Today marks 80 years since the prohibition of alcohol was repealed in the United States.

The national trade association for the brewing industry says beer has become a major contributor to the state economy.

Beer Institute president Joe McClain says the foamy beverage generates a large amount of economic activity and creates many jobs.

Whatcom County is home to four great breweries: Boundary Bay Brewery, the North Fork Brewery and Beer Shrine, Chuckanut Brewery, and Kulshan Brewing company, and a fifth brewery is in the works.
