BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham Police officers shot and killed a pit bull terrier after the dog bit three officers at the Bellingham Skate Park Saturday evening.

Police came to the skate park on Civic Field Way after witnesses reported seeing a man strike a 16-year-old boy on the back of the head so hard that it knocked his helmet off.

When officers approached the suspect, his pit bull attacked them.

They used a taser on the dog, but Lieutenant Rick Sucee says it wasn’t effective. The officers shot the dog.

Sucee says one of the officers will most likely be on light duty while his wounds heal.

Twenty-seven year-old Joel Votion was booked into Whatcom County Jail.

He’s facing charges of obstructing an officer.
