BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A new ranking shows Bellingham is one of the best places to be when disaster strikes.
The New York Times asked Sperling’s Best Places to rank the U.S. cities with the lowest risk of damage from natural disasters.
Bellingham ranks as the third safest city in the U.S.
Forbes contributor Bill Pentland says the Northwest region is still vulnerable to earthquakes and droughts.
The Mount Vernon/Anacortes metro area is the second safest.
Corvallis, Oregon got first place.
The top ten safest cities were all in Washington and Oregon.
Pentland says people who live in these cities probably pay lower insurance rates.
