A popular senior at Squalicum High School died in a car accident Sunday morning.
Hannah Dashiell was driving on Barkley Boulevard just before 10 when her car slid on the slick road near Brandywine Way, crossed the center line and collided with a car heading the other direction.
Her Volkswagen Bug burst into flames and witnesses were unable to get her out.
Bellingham police say she died at the scene.
The Medical Examiner says preliminary results of the autopsy show she was knocked unconscious in the crash and never woke up.
The smoke and fire probably killed her.
The other driver wasn’t hurt.
A Bellingham school district spokesperson says counselors are available for students and staff at Squalicum today.
