BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The City of Bellingham is working with the Whatcom Public Utility District and the City of Lynden on a possible water diversion deal.
Bellingham Public Work’s Assistant Director Jon Hutchings says the idea is to pull water out of the Nooksack River near Lynden instead of the existing middle fork site farther upstream.
Bellingham Public Works wants to have ways to avoid having to micromanage the Lake Whatcom Reservoir to keep it from dropping too low.
He says they are just starting to talk about it with the Department of Ecology, beginning a drawn-out public review process that could take years.
