WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railways says the lawsuit filed against them by the Sierra Club over pollution from coal trains is meritless.
Spokesperson Suanne Lundsberg says they have already solved the problem of escaping coal dust from open rail cars.
BNSF believes this is just a nuisance lawsuit meant to stall building the Gateway Pacific Terminal at Cherry Point.
President of the Association of Washington Business also issued a statement reacting to the lawsuit.
Don Brunell says it ignores the rigorous environmental review process already in place and delays bringing new jobs to Whatcom County.
