SEATTLE, Wash. – Police have located a high-risk sex offender who recently crossed into the U.S. from Canada.
The Seattle Police Department says they found Michael Sean Stanley in downtown Seattle yesterday.
Seattle Times reporter Mike Carter, who has been following the story, says under state law Stanley has three days to register as a sex offender.
He says unless Stanley breaks the law, police have no reason to arrest him.
Stanley disappeared from Alberta on October 1 after cutting off his electronic-monitoring bracelet.
He crossed the U.S. border in Blaine legally earlier this week.
Canadian authorities have said they will not pursue extradition.
