MOUNT BAKER, Wash. –The Boy Scouts of America’s National Council voted yesterday to lift the ban and allow openly gay boys to become boy scouts.
More than 60% of scout leaders at the annual meeting in Texas supported the proposal.
Local Boy Scout volunteer Russ Dzialo says they made the right decision.
Because Boy Scouts of America does not own or run local chapters, each local troop still has the right to decide who they will admit as a boy scout.
Openly gay adults are still banned from being scout leaders or volunteers.
