WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Local small businesses may be able to qualify for federal aid if the Skagit River bridge collapse hurts their bottom line.
Governor Jay Inslee gave a disaster declaration for the I-5 Skagit River collapse this week that includes Whatcom County on the list of affected counties.
Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo says business owners need to submit an ‘Economic Injury’ report to the Sheriff’s office that proves they are having trouble paying their bills.
If enough businesses are affected, the Small Business Administration will give out disaster relief loans to help them get back on their feet.
