Buyers warned to beware of flood-drenched vehicles

Metro

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The state Attorney General’s Office says vehicles damaged by Hurricane Sandy-related flooding are turning up for sale in Washington, and consumers should get information on the vehicle’s history before making a purchase.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson says scammers have cleaned up flood-damaged cars and are looking to sell them to unsuspecting buyers.

Consumers are urged to check the car’s VIN number online at Carfax.com, Experian’s Auto Check at AutoCheck.com, or through the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s VinCheck at nicb.org.
