WASHINGTON, DC. – Senator Maria Cantwell is demanding answers on the recent spikes in gas prices on the west coast.
In a hearing before the Senate Energy Committee this week, Cantwell called for more transparency and regulation for domestic refineries.
Cantwell cited a new report from McCullough Research that shows west coast gasoline prices have broken from historic trends this past year and have “ceased to have a significant connection with crude oil prices.”
Bellingham area gas prices have risen 15-cents in the last week.
Statewide, prices rose 9-cents.
Washington’s average gas price is now 27-cents higher than the national average.
