Council asks Mayor to consider coal study budget

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham City Council has asked Mayor Kelli Linville to consider budgeting for an independent health impact study for the Gateway Pacific Terminal at Cherry Point.

City councilmember Michael Lilliquist says there are universities and medical experts offering to do the research.

A health impact assessment would cost the city up to $25,000.

Several city council member’s have said they’re not ready to commit the money, but want it to be part of the 2014 budget discussions later this fall.
