WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s office is imposing restrictions on all open burning starting next Monday July 15.

All land clearing and yard clean-up debris burning must be stopped by that time or violators will face a $250 fine.

If an illegal fire gets out of control and the fire department is called, the person responsible may be held financially responsible for any accrued costs and damages.

Recreational fires will still be allowed in designated campgrounds and properties.

Fires must be no bigger than 3 feet in diameter with only seasoned firewood or charcoal and be built in an approved fire enclosure.
