Crews battle fire on Clark’s Point

KGMI News Reporting
By Mike Curtiss

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – State and local fire crews worked much of the day Sunday to put out a wind fueled brush fire on Clark’s Point in south Bellingham.

The fire was reported just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday on the densely forested peninsula on the south end of the Edgemoor Neighborhood.

When crews arrived they found a half-acre brush fire burning on steep terrain, with a strong southwest wind fanning the flames.

Local crews were able to contain the fire and the state Department of Natural Resources finished the job.

The exact cause of the fire has not been determined, but it is thought it be human-caused due to the history of fires in the area in the past.

All fires are prohibited on Clark’s Point.

Anyone who sees a fire on the point is asked to call 911.
