The Whatcom County Medical Examiner has positively identified a man found dead near the Sehome Haggen store Monday.
Dr. Gary Goldfogel reports the man was a 52 year old transient who has had contact with local law enforcement in the past.
He didn’t suffer any injuries, and the medical examiner says the likely cause of death is either heart disease or illicit drug use.
It’s estimated that he had been dead for at least 10 days and maybe longer.
The man’s ID is being withheld while authorities contact next of kin.
Bellingham Police Lieutenant Rick Sucee says the man had a history of contact with law enforcement.
