The Bellingham Bells came up short on the scoreboard but posted a big community victory Saturday. Gary Hatch day at Joe Martin Field was a success.
Hatch, the Bells skipper and long-time Sehome Mariner High School head coach was honored with his own bobble-head. The first 1-thousand fans through the gates at Joe Martin Field received the souvenir. Fans saluted the leader of the Bells with a bobble-head toast while shouting out his trademark phrase “Humbabe”.
With family members on field, Hatch was surprised by approximately 100 of his former players during the per-game ceremony. “My kids all came in from a long ways away, along with players all the way back to the 70’s.” Hatch said to wwww.bellinghambells.com. ” I’m so old, I even have players whose parents I coached.”
The Bells cam up short losing Friday night to Bend 2-1. “Everything was lined up for a magical moment, but it just didn’t happen” said Hatch.
