DUI possible in car crash with school bus

BLAINE, Wash. – A Ferndale man is fighting for his life and his passenger is at the hospital with serious injuries after crashing into a school bus full of middle school students at Alderson and Blaine roads yesterday morning.

None of the 40 students on the bus were hurt.

Washington State Trooper Mark Francis says drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the crash and who is responsible.

The car did not have its headlights on at the time of the crash.

The driver 38-year-old Austin Markusen is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Twenty-six-year-old Krista Wieandt of Birch Bay is in serious condition at PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Medics treated the bus driver for minor injuries at the scene.
