Environmental coalition calls for single coal port study

Metro

SEATTLE, Wash. – The “Everett Herald” reports a coalition of environmental organizations is asking the federal government to conduct a single study on three different coal terminal proposals.

The proposed terminals are located at near Bellingham, Longview and Boardman, Oregon.

The letter was sent to the Army Corps of Engineers by Seattle environmental law firm Earthjustice and signed by eleven environmental groups.

Supporters of the proposed coal terminals cite economic development benefits, while opponents have expressed concerns about coal-dust pollution and traffic delays at railroad crossings.
