OLYMPIA, Wash. – A local Senator is defending the tax breaks given to Boeing during a special session last week.
Republican Doug Ericksen of Ferndale says the tax breaks are not just for Boeing, but for all aerospace companies in the state.
The tax breaks, worth about $9 billion to Boeing through 2040 are meant to spur the company to build the 777x plane in the Puget Sound.
Union machinists at Boeing are set to vote on a contract later today.
Some workers have voiced opposition to the contract and the tax breaks approved by the Washington State Legislature.
Local political leaders are urging the workers to consider the broader impact of their vote on the state’s economy.
