OLYMPIA, Wash. – State Senator Doug Ericksen says the Legislature is close to reaching a deal on a budget and state employees will not be laid off.
The Republican from Ferndale says lawmakers could announce a budget deal as soon as today with a possible vote tomorrow.
He says lawmakers still have a few last things to iron out, but Republicans in the state Senate have blocked any big tax increases in the budget.
Thousands of government workers received layoff notices yesterday.
Many state agencies will temporarily shutdown starting next Monday if lawmakers don’t come to a budget agreement before then.
