BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Evan Scholten, a 6-foot-7 center who earned Class 1A all-state tournament honors as a senior at Cedar Park Christian High School, has accepted an offer of admission and will play men’s basketball at Western Washington University beginning this fall.
Scholten, who played in the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association 1A/2A all-state game, was a first-team Nisqually League all-star. He averaged 14.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks on a 22-3 team that won a league title (15-1) and placed third at state with 52-50 win over Lynden Christian.
His father, Dwayne, earned all-state honors at Lynden Christian, helping the Lyncs to a state title in 1982. The elder Scholten played collegiately at Seattle Pacific and Washington State, was picked in the sixth round of the NBA draft and played professionally for 15 years in Europe.
WWU graduated six of its top eight players, three of them starters, from a 31-3 team that reached the national semifinals.
