WASHINGTON D. C. – Second District Representative Rick Larsen is pleased the FAA has announced it will finalize Congress’ new pilot safety rules in the wake of the Asiana plane crash at San Francisco’s airport last week.

Larsen, a ranking member of the House Aviation Subcommittee, says despite the deaths of two passengers, it’s no accident that most of the passengers survived.

The new pilot rules include increasing the required flight training hours of first officers to 1,500 hours.

The rules will allow military veteran pilots to apply their service hours to become first officers.

The NTSB is still investigating the July 6 crash.

It’s the second crash and first fatal crash of a Boeing 777 plane since it began commercial operation in 1995.
