ANACORTES, Wash. – Police in Anacortes are warning people to be on the lookout for counterfeit money.
Two fake $100 bills turned up Sunday at a pair of businesses on Commercial Avenue.
Police say the counterfeits were created by putting real $5 bills through a chemical wash and reprinting them as $100 bills.
Because the counterfeits were printed on real money, police say the commonly used currency pen test will not work to identify them as fakes.
