WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Senator Maria Cantwell will be visiting Whatcom County today as the president urges Congress to pass a farm bill by the end of the year.
Cantwell will tour Bellewood Acres and hear from berry growers and researchers about the impact the farm bill has on them.
Agriculture production in Whatcom County is a $326 million industry and supports thousands of jobs.
The farm bill provides critical research grants for berry farmers so they can learn how to increase crop yields.
The grant money will run out soon if Congress does not pass a long-term farm bill.
