WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congress has approved a farm bill that will benefit berry farmers in Whatcom County.
The bill increases funding for researching specialty crops by 50 percent.
Local red raspberry farmers received more than one-third-million dollars in farm bill research grants last September.
Senator Maria Cantwell says the bill also cuts funding for food stamps by about 1 percent.
President Obama is expected to sign the farm bill on Friday.
