BURLINGTON, Wash. – Striking farm workers obtained a restraining order against Sakuma Brothers Farms for placing security guards in their housing areas.
A Skagit County judge issued the restraining order Wednesday, saying there is no legal reason for the guards to be there.
Rosalinda Guillen with Community to Community Development says the guards’ presence scared the workers’ families in the labor camp.
She says the Sakuma Brothers Farms has refused to meet with the workers’ labor committee since they walked off the job for the third time this summer.
They want a written agreement guaranteeing better wages, improved working conditions and jobs for next year’s harvest.
