BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A local insurance agent is passing around a purple purse with the hope of sparking a conversation about domestic violence.
Scott Richardson says domestic violence can be difficult to talk about, so the purple purse program was created to make it easier to bring up the subject.
He says the The Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse program provides victims with the financial knowledge and resources they need to break the cycle of violence.
The number one reason victims stay in relationships with their abusers is because they are financially dependent and lack the resources they need to break free.
The Allstate Foundation has committed to donate up to $350,000 to YWCA domestic violence programs.
Each time a purple purse is passed and registered online at www.purplepurse.com, $5 will be donated to YWCA.
