FERNDALE, Wash. – The Ferndale High School marching band and color guard topped its division at a statewide competition last Saturday all while dressed up as zombies.
They placed first in the AAA Division at this year’s Auburn Marching Band Competition.
The band has grown to 94 members under the direction of Steve Menefee.
Band member Alex Crape explains how they came up with the zombie theme.
Their winning show titled, “In the Dead of Night,” included performances of “Amazing Grace” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”
Ferndale also won awards for Best Marching, Best Music, Best General Effects, and the People’s Choice Award.
A total of 25 bands from around the state participated in the competition.
The Ferndale Band Boosters is holding a holiday festival this weekend to raise funds for new band uniforms.
The festival will be held in the Ferndale High School gym this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
